My Teaching Philosophy

I've been immersed in music education for 25 years—first as a student for 12 years, and for the past 13 years as a teacher. Young Artist Development project was born out of a clear reaction to what I observed wasn't working in the traditional methods of teaching music.

If we could travel back to the year 1800, we would step into a world that looks and feels entirely different—language, architecture, fashion, and lifestyle have all evolved. But if you were to sit in on a violin lesson from that era, you might be shocked to see how little has changed. A teacher with a violin in hand, a metronome ticking in the background, a student working through scales or concertos. One hour passes, and the lesson ends.

And yet, the young people of today are not the young people of 1800. The world asks more of them—creativity, adaptability, emotional intelligence, resilience. The framework hasn’t kept up.

The discipline required to play an instrument is an invaluable asset. But the journey—that’s the true gift. That journey builds more than musicianship. It builds character. My teaching philosophy centers around exactly that: THE JOURNEY.

My goal is to nurture a deep love of music in my students while helping their unique artistic voice rise to the surface.

The journey to true artistry is a lifelong one. And during a child's formative years, it must be approached with care, intention, and heart. This path is built on six essential elements:

  • Discipline

  • Creativity

  • Practicing with an analytical mind

  • Self-discovery

  • Performing under pressure

  • Mastery of the craft

When these six pillars are developed, a young person begins to see the world through the lens of an artist. Whether they become a professional musician or pursue another path entirely, they carry with them tools for life—clarity of thought, creativity in problem-solving, and the ability to execute with precision and integrity.

In a world that’s constantly changing, the artist’s mindset remains one of the most powerful assets a child can possess.
